Concussion Management Practice Exam

Cantu grading uses the severity of the concussion based on what happened at the time and how long symptoms last. Grade 3 is reserved for the most serious injuries and is assigned when there is clear evidence of substantial brain disruption: loss of consciousness longer than one minute, post-traumatic amnesia longer than 24 hours, or signs and symptoms that persist beyond a week. Each of these criteria indicates a higher level of injury and a longer recovery window, which is why they map to the most severe category. In contrast, milder grades have shorter or no loss of consciousness or amnesia and symptoms that resolve quickly, so they do not meet Grade 3 criteria.
